Chad Arnell

Hello! I have been an instructor and owner of since 2002. I have been a Spanish teacher in the Boise and West Ada School Districts since since 1997. I earned a B.A. in Spanish and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Boise State University. I was nominated as teacher of the year by colleagues, parents and students at Lowell Scott Middle School in 2003. I also received the "Top 100" educators in Boise award from the Boise Rotary Scholars Program in 2014 in recognition of exceptional teaching and inspirational guidance.

Prior to becoming and educator, I traveled extensively throughout Central and South America. I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for two years as a missionary for my church. I also lived in Santiago, Chile for an entire summer with a host family as a student while earning my bachelor’s degree. Traveling Latin America is a passion of mine. I have traveled through the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico 6 times climbing the Maya ruins. I have also white water rafted and zip lined my way through Costa Rica 3 times with my Spanish students. I love the Spanish language and culture! I am happily married with two energetic children. I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking and fishing with my son, running, watching movies, working with the guys and gals of Excel. I am also a huge Boise State fan and am a second generation graduate.

It is a pleasure for me to work with the other talented driving instructors at Excel to provide the Treasure Valley with the best teen driver's training in Idaho!

Welcome to Excel! I look forward to instructing you!

My wife Crystal and I have three great kids: Paige, Cooper, and Parker. I like to watch and play football, basketball, and volleyball, and I enjoy running. I look forward to working with you!

Cari Smith

My name is Cari Smith. In 2011, my little Yorkie Carlo and I moved to Idaho to be closer to family; I have been working full time at Valley Ride (city bus) as a Supervisor in Dispatch. One of my primary tasks is to coordinate behind the wheel training for new Operators in order to get their CDL. I am a self-proclaimed bus nerd! I worked for Princess Tours in Alaska from 1997-2004 in various customer service and driving positions (except for a year and a half mission to Argentina and California). In 2005, I became the Transportation Manager for the entire Denali Park division. What a blast! We merged with Holland America in 2009 and it was so fun to have that new challenge.

I joined Excel this spring and have truly loved every minute of the fun (job). It’s difficult to call it a job because I really enjoy watching the students progress and have those a-ha moments when they learn a new skill behind the wheel. Plus, teenagers are so much fun to be around! I can’t wait to see who else I meet. It feels really great to be entrusted with teaching your children things that will help them safely navigate the road!

Austin Arnell

Hello! My name is Austin Arnell, and I love working for Excel Driving Academy. I am a current student at Boise State University and am finishing up my Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Pre-Medicine. I was born and raised here in Boise, Idaho and graduated from Renaissance High School as the Valedictorian in 2015.

When I’m not on the road, I love to play and watch almost any kind of sport. I also enjoy traveling to other countries and experiencing new cultures, and trying new food of course! I joined the Excel team in the Summer of 2017, and I have truly enjoyed teaching so many people such valuable life skills such as driving.

I can’t wait to meet you, and stay safe on the road!
